They have just resumed for the second semester and students were going from one lecturer to the other for registration both in their departments and faculties. Thomas Henry, a student of Political Science was going to see one of his lecturers to have his course form signed. Approaching the entrance of the office, he tapped on the door. A voice roared from inside the office. “Yes, who is it? Come in please.
The student opened the door, closed it against himself and made straight for his lecturer’s table. Next, he spread his course form in front on the table to be signed by the lecturer.
The lecturer, who had been busy all day, ran his eyes over the student with disdain and finally erupted with anger. He spoke; ” I doubt if you are well trained, or perhaps you are well trained but did not put the training into practice.
“Your brain should have told you that the first thing you should do is to greet when you came into my office. For this reason, I will not sign your form in the next two weeks.
“As a student and youth greeting is a good habit. Simple greeting shows you have courtesy and good manner. Greet always because you never know where you meet people who can help you.”
“You have to come back until you know what to do,” the lecturer angrily dismissed him. With disappointment written all over him, Thomas dragged himself out.
As a student and a youth, greeting is a good habit. Simple greeting shows you have courtesy and good manner. Greet always because you never know where you meet people who can help you.
Greeting makes you sit well in the minds of people. Their thoughts towards you will always be positive. Greet so that things that are supposed to favour you do not go against you.
Reward of Greeting
- When you greet, you receive favour from everyone
- Greeting establishes good and cordial relationship with people
- Greeting makes people extend their hands of help towards you
- It shows you in positive light
- It connects you with people
- It shows an impression that you are good and morally upright

What is your thought about this story? Let’s hear you in the comment section now.
Thank you so much for an article of this nature that’s long overdue, for thereโs so much moral decadence in the world, as the Youths no longer have respect nor regard for the elderly, all in the name of rights.
Hey Ray,
Thanks for airing your thoughts.
The issue of respect and rights really needs urgent balancing attention.
The guy in the story really had guts.
Just hope this happened in a foreign clime.
Regardless of how some take greeting, it’s really a very good culture to imbibe.
The benefits you mentioned here are spot on.

Thanks for the thumbs up Eric
There is so much moral decadence in the world today. So, greeting which is part of our cultural heritage has been a forgotten issue. Honestly, where the world is heading is unclear, and unless we teach today’s children our values, things will nosedive further, and we will only have ourselves to blame.
Thanks Babatunde,
Your view, contribution highly appreciated
