Chelsea Football Club has announced the appointment of Enzo Maresca as their new manager. The Italian coach leaves Leicester City after successfully leading the team to Premier League promotion as Championship title winners.
Maresca has signed a five-year contract with Chelsea, with an option for an additional year. He takes over from Mauricio Pochettino, who departed by mutual consent on May 21 after one season at Stamford Bridge.
In his statement, Maresca expressed his excitement: “Joining Chelsea, one of the world’s biggest clubs, is a dream for any coach. I am thrilled about this opportunity and look forward to working with a talented group of players and staff to build a team that upholds the club’s tradition of success and makes our fans proud.”
Chelsea’s co-sporting directors, Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley, commented: “We are excited to welcome Enzo to Chelsea. He has demonstrated his capability as an excellent coach, delivering impressive results with an exciting and identifiable style. Enzo has deeply impressed us in our discussions, and his ambitions and work ethic align with those of the club. We look forward to working with him.”
The Chelsea ownership group also expressed enthusiasm: “We are thrilled to welcome Enzo into the Chelsea family. We are confident in his abilities as a coach and leader and look forward to supporting him and the sporting team in achieving their potential and our expectations over the coming years.”
