‘Jayelo’ the controversial song by the Afrobeat singer, Davido, is tearing prominent Nigerians apart as they continue to express differing opinion over the perceived repulsive video.
Muslim adherents such as the popular Nollywood star, Ali Nuhu, are fuming saying Davido should take down the video and apologise to Muslims.
An adviser to former President Mohammadu Buhari, Bashir Ahmad, on social media page wrote that the content was “absolutely disrespectful, hurtful and offensive. We Muslim don’t mix our religion with jokes in any way.”
Former Senator of the Federal Republic, Sheu Sanni had also twitted that Davido should apologise because fans were “offended” by the video.
But, the Nobel laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka had earlier defended the Afrobeat star expressing that, “I have not seen the clip, but I insist on the right of the artiste to deploy dance in a religious setting as a fundamental given.”
While, popular Nigerian singer and social critic, Charly Boy, commented via the social media that what northern youths did by burning down Davido’s poster was uncalled for, advising them to seek redress instead.
Since the purportedly distasteful video version of ‘Jayelo’ was released it has heated up both the social and Islamic religious circles.
‘Jayelo’ in video shows Davido’s signee, Logos Olori, sitting over a speaker on a mosque, while some Muslim faithfuls who are offering prayer, suddenly change over into singing and dancing.
However, Davido had deleted the supposedly contentious video, taking responsibility of the hurt it has caused, looking for ways to appropriately solve the matter of contention.
