Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Bingham University, Professor Dul Johnson, has been awarded the 2023 Abubakar Gimba’s Prize for Fiction by the Association of Nigeria Authors (ANA).
The announcement took place during the recent annual prize-giving ceremony held in Abuja.
Renowned as a creative writer, critic, and filmmaker, Prof. Dul Johnson previously secured the 2017 fiction prize from the Association of Nigerian Authors for his work: “Across the Gulf.” This latest accolade adds to his impressive list of honours, which includes recognition for his contributions to film and television productions.
Noteworthy among these achievements is the International Writers Program (IWP) Fellowship of Brown University, Rhode Island, USA. During this fellowship, he dedicated a semester to developing his inaugural novel and crafting his ethnographic documentary film, “There is Nothing Wrong with My Uncle,” alongside numerous other noteworthy works.
Beyond his literary and cinematic accomplishments, Prof. Johnson currently serves as the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and holds the position of Professor in the Department of English and Literary Studies. His dedication extends to fervent commitment to reshaping perceptions of Africa by narrating authentic African stories through film and creative literature.
