A significant milestone was reached at the 10th Convocation ceremony of Landmark University, where the institution celebrated the remarkable achievements of its Class of 2023 graduates.
The ceremony witnessed an extraordinary achievement from the Department of Mechanical Engineering as Miss Danjuma Deborah made history with a perfect 5.0/5.0 CGPA. She led a group of sixty-eight First-Class Honours graduates out of a total of 504 students. This accomplishment underscores the University’s unwavering commitment to nurturing and producing well-rounded graduates poised to make a significant impact in their respective fields.
In addition to the outstanding First-Class Honours graduates, the convocation also marked the conferral of 5 Postgraduate Diplomas, 9 Master’s degrees, and 15 Doctorates, highlighting the institution’s dedication to offering comprehensive educational opportunities with a focus on timeliness.
During the event, the Chancellor and Chairman of the Board of Regents of Landmark University, Dr. David Oyedepo, delivered an insightful speech titled “The Type of Education We Need in Africa.”
Dr. Oyedepo emphasized the imperative of reforming Africa’s education system to address local and global challenges with indigenous solutions. He stressed the importance of harnessing untapped natural resources and human intellectual capabilities as key drivers of Africa’s development. Dr. Oyedepo advocated for a shift towards solution-driven thinking to unlock the continent’s potential.
Highlighting the distinctiveness of Landmark University as a model institution, the Chancellor underscored the university’s mission to restore Africa’s lost glory. He commended Landmark’s commitment to translating words into practical solutions and its customized programs that shape well-rounded graduates. Dr. Oyedepo encouraged the graduates to be problem solvers, stating, “The world is not seeking storytellers or entertainers; challenges everywhere present opportunities everywhere. At Landmark, we aim not only to diagnose problems but also to formulate action plans that convert rhetoric into positive experiences. We are devoted to imparting practical, life-applicable education to a new generation of leaders by grounding their skills in our core values, including the Total-Man-Concept, Entrepreneurship Development Studies, Agripreneurship, and Towards a Total Graduate (TTG).”
In her address to the graduates, the Pro-Chancellor of Landmark University, Pastor Mrs. Faith Oyedepo, enlightened them about the realities of life after graduation in her speech titled “Life after Graduation.” She emphasized the need for passion, proactivity, and patience as guiding principles for achieving their future aspirations. “Be passionate for God and His word, cultivate an intense, strong, affectionate desire for God and His word,” she advised.
The Vice-Chancellor of Landmark University, Professor Kolawole Ajanaku, expressed pride in the institution’s global recognition. He attributed this achievement to the use of exceptional facilities for high-quality engagement. He further highlighted the university’s innovative courses designed to prepare graduates for success in the competitive job market. Professor Ajanaku emphasized the transformative impact of Landmark’s curriculum and the institution’s commitment to holistic development, guided by the Chancellor, Dr. David Oyedepo.
The Olomu of Omu-Aran, Oba Abdulraheem Oladele Adeoti, who led other traditional rulers from Kwara South to the event, commended the remarkable progress that Landmark University has made since its inception.
The event was attended by a distinguished gathering of dignitaries, Vice-Chancellors, and Registrars from universities near and far, as well as proud parents. It serves as a testament to the fact that Landmark University continues to shine as a beacon of academic excellence in the educational landscape.
