To address the gap created by retiring teachers in Lagos State, the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) under the State Government is set to recruit teachers with specializations in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) subjects.
The recruitment aims to improve the teacher-to-student ratio in schools, tackling the issue of high student-to-teacher ratios in Lagos schools.
According to the Commission’s Deputy Director of Public Affairs, Mr. Kayode Sutton, the recruitment drive aims to achieve a ratio of at least one teacher to every 30 students.
To achieve this, the Commission will partner with the six education districts in the State to address shortages arising from teacher retirements due to age and years of service.
Priority is being given to STEM teachers, as they are in high demand and scarce. However, the Commission emphasized that other subject teachers are also considered for employment, although STEM teachers are being prioritized.
Candidates with education backgrounds can apply, providing their details and qualifications.
Selected applicants will be invited for an interview, mini-test, and teaching practice to select the best-qualified teachers.
STEM teachers specialize in subjects like Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Technical subjects, English, and Mathematics.
