During the 2023 World STEM Day event at AUN, Professor Attahir Yusuf, the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, underscored the pivotal role of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) in national development.
Represented by Dr. Abubakar Sadiq Hussaini, the interim dean of the AUN School of Engineering and associate professor of Telecommunications Engineering, Professor Attahir Yusuf emphasized that STEM education serves as a catalyst for innovation, propels economic growth, and addresses societal challenges.
He highlighted that advancements in STEM fields contribute significantly to progress in areas such as medicine, healthcare services, infrastructure, and communications, ultimately enhancing the overall quality of human services.
“Through strategic investments in STEM education and research, we can unleash the full potential of our nation, paving the way for a more promising future for everyone. STEM disciplines play a vital role in national development across various dimensions.
“Furthermore, by applying scientific principles in public service management and other spheres, society stands to gain in terms of efficiency, sustainability, safety, and accountability.
“STEM education and training are indispensable for cultivating a skilled workforce. By dedicating resources to STEM education, a nation can foster a generation of critical thinkers, problem solvers, and innovators. STEM forms the backbone of national development, and by acknowledging and substantially investing in STEM education, Nigeria can forge a brighter and more prosperous future for all citizens,” expressed the Professor of Business and Entrepreneurship.
