Nollywood veteran Patrick Doyle has sparked a debate by urging Christian gospel singers and committed Christians to stop seeking validation from the entertainment industry.
Doyle made this statement in a Facebook post reacting to Tems’ win at the 2024 BET Awards, where she took home the Dr. Bob Jones Best Gospel/Inspirational award.
Doyle expressed disbelief that Tems’ song “Me & You” beat renowned gospel singers like Kirk Franklin, Cece Winans, and Maverick City Music.
He argued that the entertainment industry is controlled by Satan and that committed Christians should not seek validation from “fickle institutions” like the industry.
While acknowledging Tems’ talent, Doyle sympathized with mainstream gospel artists who might feel slighted by her win.
This marks Tems’ fourth BET Award win, having previously won Best International Act and Best Collaboration in 2022, and Best Collaboration again in 2023.
