The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has made Mandatory Skills Qualification (MSQ) a requirement for both National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) students.
According to a release by the Board’s Head of Media, Fatima Abubakar, this development aligns with global standards and ensures that both ND and HND graduates receive National Skills Qualifications (NSQ) as an additional certification upon graduation.
Abubakar emphasized that skill acquisition is central to the training of young Nigerians in polytechnics, making this requirement crucial.
She stated that MSQ is now a requirement for all diploma programs and must be attained before graduation.
According to her, NSQ is a certification system designed to assess and recognize individuals’ skills and competencies in various fields.
“NSQ aims to bridge the gap between formal education and industry needs by providing individuals with practical skills relevant to the job market,” Abubakar explained.
She added, “Obtaining both NSQ and ND certifications in Nigeria offers several benefits, including a comprehensive skill set, increased employability, versatility, professional recognition, and career progression.”
