Napoli’s president, Aurelio de Laurentiis, has acknowledged that the potential sale of Victor Osimhen could be more emotional than financial for the club.
Osimhen, who has a release clause, could depart for a staggering fee of up to €150m in the upcoming transfer window.
Speaking at the FT’s Football Business Summit, De Laurentiis highlighted the financial implications, stating, “Osimhen has a release clause.
That’s a lot of money. Money is Napoli’s latest problem. We have always made good purchases and will continue to do so in the future.”
He also expressed the sentimental aspect of selling a player of Osimhen’s caliber, likening it to saying goodbye to a child.
However, he added, “At the same time, you’re happy even when he achieves success elsewhere.”
Osimhen’s contributions to Napoli have been significant, with his performances playing a crucial role in the club’s league title success last season.
Additionally, he was instrumental in helping the Super Eagles secure a second-place finish at the African Cup of Nations.
