With serious anxiety ahead of 2023 Presidential Elections in Nigeria, some private schools in Ogun and Lagos states have declared mid-term break for 2nd term 2022/23 session, starting from Monday 20 February to 24th February, 2023.
According to the circular sent out by one of the schools, Nisrel Academy, Lambe Ogun State, the school authority said the mid-term break for 2nd term 2022/23 session will start from Monday 20 February to 24th February, 2023, adding that the school activities will resume on Monday 27th February, 2023.
Information gathered across the two states by Black Campus reporter revealed that most private schools in the states have/will declare’d’ the same date as their mid-term holiday.
Speaking to a mother, Mrs Kehinde Ajibola whose two children attend a private school in Ogun State, she said, “I cannot allow my children to go to school even if their school does not declare mid-term holiday which is the same week with 2023 Presidential Election in the country. We thank the school authority for their understanding.”
There are indications that those schools that have not declared mid-term break will follow suite before the close work today or latest by mid-week next week.
As at the time of filling this report, there are reports of skirmishes across the two states and other states in the federation, with police and military officers battling, dispersing demonstrators who are demonstrating scarcity of funds and inability to withdraw new naira notes from banks.
The Central Bank of Nigeria announced naira redesign last year giving February 1th as the last date the old currency will be recognised as legal tender.
However, CBN extended the date to February 10. Yesterday, February 16, President Muhammadu Buhari, in his nation-wide broadcast announced that the old two hundred naira note will still be in circulation with the new N200, N500, and N1000 notes untill April 10 when the old N200 note will be withdrawn from circulation.
The president said the old N500 and N1000 notes should be returned to the CBN.
