The Flamingos, Nigeria’s U17 girls’ team, are scheduled to depart for Bamako, Mali, in preparation for their FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup African qualification series. They will face Burkina Faso in the third round, first leg encounter on Saturday.
Having only missed one edition of the competition since its inception in 2008, the Nigerian team aims for a strong start in Mali, anticipating a favorable outcome that would make the return leg in Abuja on May 18th a mere formality.
Despite a convincing 9-1 victory in a preparatory match, Head Coach Bankole Olowookere emphasizes the importance of his players understanding the disparity between training sessions and actual game situations, stressing the need for efficient conversion of scoring opportunities.
In a recent development, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has made alterations to the match officials for Saturday’s fixture at the Stade on 26 March in Bamako. Originally, Joselyn Nsabimana was slated to serve as the fourth official, alongside Burundian counterparts Suavis Iratunga, Fides Bangurambona, and Alida Iradukunda as the referee and assistant referees.
However, CAF has now designated Teneba Bagayoko from Mali as the fourth official. Oumou Souleyman Kane from Mauritania and Aya Irene Ahoua from Cote d’Ivoire remain in their roles as commissioner and referee assessor, respectively.
