GTI Asset Management & Trust Limited, strategic partners of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), have reaffirmed their commitment to the 2023/2024 season by announcing an increased prize money of N150 million for the league’s champion. This amount marks a significant rise from the N100 million awarded to the winner, Enyimba International FC of Aba, during the 2022/2023 season.
In a press release distributed to sports journalists in Lagos on Friday, Andrew Ekejiuba, the Head of Media and Publicity for GTI/TNFF, addressed recent false reports circulating on social media. These reports inaccurately claimed that there was no definitive figure for the upcoming season’s prize money, contradicting an earlier statement by GTI’s Group Managing Director, Abubakar Lawal, in late July, which confirmed the increase to N150 million.
Ekejiuba expressed disappointment regarding the misinformation and emphasized that the development of a football league is an incremental process, not something that happens overnight. He urged stakeholders and fans to support the NPFL as it aspires to achieve transparency and success.
Regarding the live streaming of NPFL matches via Over-the-Top (OTT) platforms in the upcoming season, GTI praised Propel Sports Africa for their efforts. They highlighted the deployment and training of young Nigerians across the country to operate advanced AI cameras and the successful testing of these systems in preparation for the new season.
Concluding the statement, Ekejiuba affirmed GTI’s commitment to collaborating with the recently inaugurated Board of the Nigeria Premier League (NPL), led by Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye, to ensure the seamless execution of the upcoming season.
