For international students at Imperial College, London, Vedashree Chandewar, a graduate student of Environmental Engineering has narrated how to get the most out of one of the world’s best university. Chanderwar narrated that is an exciting opportunity to study at Imperial where it may somehow be challenging trying to balance studying and exploring the country even as you adjust to a new area.
He said you can still enjoy study as well as have fun, adding all you need to do is break down your time into a manageable chunk. “You can set your short-term goals by dividing your years into termly/monthly fragments,” he said.
“The curriculum at Imperial is structured such that it offers breathing room in the first few weeks of each term allowing you to visit London’s famous historical monuments, markets, gardens, clubs, stadia, musicals, etc.
He started that in the first term you could spend your first month settling into your accommodation attending fresher’s event, making new friends and exploring the city’s landmark.
While, as Chanderwar pointed out, in the second term you could pay attention to strengthening your academic foundation, advancing your professional skills as you start applying for job.
“The third and final term is the research projects, and you will be expected to dedicate your complete time for your thesis,” he expressed.
According to him, the International students Support team at Imperial holds variety of tours every month for most attraction with extremely affordable tickets.
“It is important to manage your time and energy as you please, adding Imperial has more than 300 clubs and societies catering to the interest of people from around the world,” he explained.
The graduate student disclosed that Imperial College has the advantage of having a campus in South Kensington which is home to the Victorial and Albert Museum, Science Museum and Natural History Museum which can be explored during long breaks in between classes.
In his words, “Take advantage of last-minute deals and student discounts by being flexible enough as you plan your trip in advance if you want to travel to other parts of the country or Europe.
Nevertheless, Chandewar warned that it is tempting to explore all the tourist spots and attend all events, but it is important to prioritise your studies and mental health, adding you could also take a break and do some self-care.
