Being low on cash and in school can be an overwhelming burden on your parents if they aren’t buoyant enough to sponsor you through school. If you are a reasonable person, it would get to you too. if you think about it a lot of times, it might drain you and not only will it leave you depressed, it will leave you with very poor grades as you won’t concentrate on your studies.
I know because I’ve been down that road and I have a lot of friends who have too. So what am I saying? Being a poor student is tough but being a poor student with no initiative is tougher. Does that tell you anything? It only says you need to be innovative. Being a poor student and a spendthrift at the same time. Wait, what am I saying? The words “poor student” and “spendthrift” shouldn’t even belong to the same sentence. Reasonable spending should be your Mantra. If you wouldn’t take into consideration that you are poor at least, have pity on your parents at home who are breaking their backs in order that you’ll have good education.
Spending reasonably and having initiative should be your most-priced possessions. Yeah. You can spend reasonably but when you don’t do something reasonable about being a poor student in order to save money or reel in money, then you aren’t being kind to your future. You know, reeling in money saves money and at the same time saves your folks the stress. As a student, poor or not, there are a lot of things you can do in school to save money.
“Spending reasonably and having initiative should be your most-priced possessions. Yeah. You can spend reasonably but when you don’t do something reasonable about being a poor student in order to save money or reel in money, then you aren’t being kind to your future.”
Some are just DIY tricks while others I’ll call using your sixth sense; common sense. Living within your means isn’t being cheap, so don’t let it get to you. So, grab a pen and paper and for your convenience, a snack wouldn’t be so bad. Let’s ride on.
Student scholarships
Being on scholarship helps take care of some of the bills and most times all of them. So, strive to be on one of those as there are lot of student scholarships out there to help you spend less money.
Hit the school gym instead
Of course, not with a hammer. School gyms are there to save you from membership bills in commercial gyms. School gyms are not so bad; nobody will know that the reason you look like an athlete ripped right off the front cover of a celebrity magazine is the extra hours spent in the school gym.
Befriend the nerds
Research has it that most nerds are the way they are because of the level of their intelligence. They’d rather study than be at parties. Nerds never select friends as long as you are a loyal friend. Befriending a nerd might not necessarily make you a nerd; it will just get you free tutoring from a genius friend.
Don’t be late for the costume party
You mustn’t go to the mall or an over-priced clothing store before you can get good clothes or shoes. Hit the pawn store and be on the alert for yard sales, you might be surprised at what quality of clothes and shoes you’ll find for very low prices.
Make old items new again
You don’t have to throw out old clothes, shoes. bags, belongings or even school books. You actually have the power to bring back to life these old belongings of yours. Here’s what you can do about that denim jacket or other clothes that have become undersized or old;
Sell ‘em clothes
Yeah, that’s like giving your old clothes new life in the hands of another and being paid for it, that’s even better. There are online stores and sites where you can sell those clothes or certain belongings you no longer need or use. Some of these sites include Craiglist and Poshmark. You can also always sell last semesters books and instead of buying new books, rent them make notes off the books you rented and send them back.
Be creative with used belongings
Your worn-out trousers can be made into different pairs of shorts with flowery patterns from that flowered clothes you no longer have use for. Or you can just stick with having different shades of plain shorts. Awesome right? Also, if you have to give gifts, you can create beautiful paper wraps yourself. Now those shoes look outdated or just better off hanging in an antique store or museum. Well, I remember turning an outdated leather boots into perfect stilettos, had to do a lot of cutting and trimming anyway.
Redecorate your bag or those from other friends who have no use for them with beautiful pieces of clothes which you can stitch on them or you can knit beautiful patterns like heart-shaped, butterfly or flowery patterns on them for the ladies and for the guys, you can turn that long sleeved sweatshirt into a sleeveless one.
Do the décor yourself
You really do not have to hire a painter or someone to help you decorate the walls of your room for a fee. You can do it yourself and if you have a friend, he or she can help you. What are friends for anyway? Saves you money and helps you share a few laughs with friends while splashing around paints and throwing about paper arts.
Get creative with your dishes
A lot of times you find out that you’d rather eat out because of the way the food tastes out there or the look of that sumptuous meal. Bring that meal home in your own little way. I bet you, your pockets will be proud you did.
Drink water instead
Binge drinking can get you in different forms of trouble but since water is free, then save yourself the ridiculously excess charges you pay each time you drink from a can of soda or a bottle of beer. Making fruit juice with your blender wouldn’t be a terrible idea you know.
There are a lot of different things you could do but these are some of the more creative ones so, get out there, be a lot more creative and quit sitting in a corner and brooding over your accumulating bills.
Kindly share information with your friends.
