Candidates need to know that it is not all institutions that conduct Post-UTME, and Online Screening. Some universities opt for Post-UTME, while others conduct just Online Screening, which is why candidates must know the method that the university they applied to adopts.
Post-UTME
As you know, post-UTME is another examination designed by various universities and polytechnics, besides the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). They adopt this so that they will be able to select the candidates that will be finally admitted into their institutions.
The scores from Post-UTME, UTME, as well as O’ Level results, will be considered when computing the final score by arriving at the average that will form the basis of admission.
This means that candidates must have good scores in UTME, and Post-UTME, as well as good grades at O’ Level, to occupy a vantage position after the three must have been computed.
Online Screening
Online Screening is also a form of the selection process to determine which candidates will be admitted finally into an institution.
This process does not require sitting for any examination at a designated time or date. All that the institution will do is just compute candidates’ O’ Level results and UTME scores in prerequisite subjects sat for in the UTME and the appropriate O’ Level subject combinations.
What to Do
Candidates must endeavour to do well in all these examinations to be in an advantageous position.
However, if your score is low in UTME, and you are lucky to beat the cut-off marks set by JAMB which will qualify you to sit for Post-UTME, study well to score high marks.
If you are applying to an institution where they adopt Online Screening, Besides your score in UTME, which must beat the cut-off mark set by JAMB, you must have good grades in your O’ Level results.
Values of Grades
Each grade in the O’Level result has its value according to institutions. In the University of Ibadan for instance grades are rated in order of these values:
A1- 6
B2- 5
B3- 4
C4- 3
C5- 2
C6- 1
For some universities, the grades are rated according to the following:
A1- 6
B (B2, B3)- 4
C4, C5, C6- 3
However, if a candidate uses only one sitting, he has an edge over the candidate who uses two sitting.
Candidates are advised to investigate how the institution they applied to calculate either their Online Screening or Post-UTME.

All the very best
Post-utme and online screening which of them comes first
A university can adopt any of the two. No matter which one is adopted, they are all methods of screening students to determine who is given admission in the end of the day.
Some universities conduct their screening online, meaning students don’t need to sit for Post-UTME again. The screening is done online without physical presence of applicants.
The screening is determined through finding the aggregate score in UTME, and the WASSCE/NECO results after applicants have uploaded their documents.
Post-UTME demands that a specific exam date is scheduled where candidates are made to sit for CBT.
The score in CBT, the UTME score and WASSCE results are computed to finally determine who is offered admission into a particular university.
