The hurdle that faces the candidates of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) after knowing their scores is how to scale through post-UTME. It is not enough to score a high mark in UTME, you must still prepare well for the Post-UTME to finally secure admission to Nigerian universities.
To cross this hurdle, you must do the following:
Forget about the UTME Score
For now, forget about your score in UTME. It has come and gone, and you have known your score.
Concentrate on what stares you in the face, and that is passing post-UTME screening well. When you take your mind off this, you will be able to concentrate well.
Study Past Post-UTME Questions
Trying to lay your hand on past questions of post-UTME in the university you are seeking admission to. Study and work through those questions. Check the pattern of the questions and use them to study for the screening.
Study Current Affairs
Endeavour to study current affairs very well. Most of the questions are drawn from here. Be conversant of the current happenings in your country as they affect governance, political issues, and state-of-the-nation events.
Lay your Hands on WAEC and JAMB Questions. Study these questions to prepare ahead. Revise them because the universities set JAMB and WAEC standard questions as their screening questions mostly.
Be Accurate and Speedy
Make an effort to improve your speed and accuracy. Endeavour to finish the exam because the time is not always enough. Learn how to answer questions at the speed of light.
Revise rather than Study New Things
Always revise instead of studying new topics. If you study new topics you will be wasting your time. Concentrate on questions in JAMB and WAEC which form the bulk of questions asked in post-UTME screening.
Calculators are Prohibited
Learn to study without a calculator because most institutions will not allow the use of a calculator. Depend entirely on the task your brain can perform.
Study English
English forms the bulk of questions in Post-UTME of some institutions, so study English very well.
Avoid Social Media for now
Avoid social media for now, Stop WhatsApp chat. Stop browsing. Avoid spending so much time on Facebook. Try and be focused to be able to scale through the screening.
Have a positive mind that you will do well, don’t panic, settle down, and know that you are the best.
