The Senior Special Assistant to the President on School Feeding in Nigeria, Dr. Yetunde Adeniji, has advised both children and students on security.
She passed the information through an official message to parents as children prepared to resume another session of their academic programme.
Dr Adeniji warned parents to desist from writing the names of their children on their school bags and cardigans.
She advised them to consider writing inside the student’s bags instead of the outside, saying it will be easy for kidnappers, rapists, and murderers to call them by their names when the names are displayed on the bags.
She stated that as criminals call out children’s names, they would respond positively, believing that these criminals know them, or that they are their relatives.
The Special Aide expressed that this information should be passed across to other parents to save the children’s lives.
The kidnapping of children has been a trend in Nigeria, with the latest occurring in Kaduna and Sokoto in the North-west region of the country, with over 300 children abducted at different times in March 2024.
In the time past, students have been kidnapped from Chibok, Dapchi, and Kankara, by insurgents and terrorists.
