The Covenant University (CU) has clinched three different awards in 2023 Future Creative Leader Academic (FCLA) competition held recently. A final year student of Department of Mass Communication, Mary Kayinsola Owolabi, emerged the overall winner, clinching gold medal in the competition, while Covenant University won the FCLA Best School award of year 2023, having been adjudged to obtain the most combined scores and points.
Also, a lecturer and Head of Department of Mass Communication, Dr Kehinde Oyesomi, got the FCLA Lecturer of the year 2023 award for her supervisory responsibilities to the overall winning student.
During the competition, participating students were to come up with an ingenious intervention idea on behalf of “creating a Better Africa” to sustain attention on the plight of people living in flood-prone regions of the country.
The initiative comprised competitions, seminars and workshop designed for students across tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
Commending the award winners, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Abiodun H. Adebayo, said the award was a further testament to the robust academic curriculum of the university, which is designed to prepare graduates of the institution for the world.
The Future Creative Leaders Academy is a youth programme of the Pitcher Festival of creativity designed for students in universities and other tertiary institutions.
The Academy allows for intensive learning, discerning of talents, and inspiring and immersing hopeful professionals into the world of advertising and marketing communication.
The 2023 competition featured University of Lagos, Lagos State University, Ajayi Crowther University, Pan- Atlantic University among others.
