Nollywood actress, film producer, and writer, Doris Simeon, has expressed her desire to come back to acting, longing for her family and friends. She expressed this opinion while being interviewed by her fellow actor, Kunle Afod, saying she was particularly more fascinated about being on set, especially when she sees actors sharing behind-the-scenes moments on their social media platforms.
She disclosed that she missed home, especially the roadside food and street vendors, leaving Nigeria in 2018 and hadn’t returned since then, but hopes to visit the country in the next one to two years.
Simeon expressed that she relocated to America because of her son, who lives in America, disclosing that settling there wasn’t easy because she had to begin a new life.
She said, “If you are lazy, you’ll suffer, and those who have been here for the past 20 and 50 years aren’t finding life easy. The system wasn’t designed to allow you to afford some bills without working or being given money.
“If you don’t work you won’t eat or pay bills, if the bills aren’t paid the person will sleep in the cold. I haven’t done much work since I relocated, such as a delivery job, personal shopper, and hairdresser. I currently work at Heart and Home for Youth, a foster care and group home programme for youth and teen mothers in Maryland,” the actress stated.
Simeon said one of the most challenging things for her was waking up early for work, saying timing can vary depending on the shift, but regardless of the job, individuals still need to wake up early.
Simeon won the 2008 AMAA Awards for Best Indigenous Actress, receiving also the 2015 All Youths Tush Awards AYTA Role Model (Movie) Award.
She got divorced in 2011 from her husband, Daniel Ademinokan, a filmmaker, who is the father of her son, David.
Ademinokan later married Stellar Damasus, a Nollywood actress, when he relocated to America after divorcing Doris, however, his marriage to Damasus also crashed.
