The leading Afrobeats singer and Grammy Awards winner, Ayodeji Balogun aka Wizkid, has paid homage to D’banj, Don Jazzy, Doctor Sid and Prince as singers that did a lot for African music. He disclosed this in an interview, recalling how strong, excellent and good they all were in that era.
Remembering the past, Wizkid said, “I grew up around D’banj a lot. You know like Mo’ Hits, that era. I was in the house they didn’t even know I was in the house”
“I was even living with them, they didn’t even know I was living with them. That was how crazy it was, cos we were just family,” said the singer.
Saluting and acknowledging them, Wizkid said, “Big shoutout to D’banj, yeah Mo’ Hits, Wande Cole, Don Jazzy, Dr sid, Prince. God bless you guys, that was big, that was a strong team that did a lot for African music.”
Ever since being on his own, Wizkid has grown to become a phenomenal in his music career and Afrobeats, winning awards locally and globally.
Recently, one of the Afrobeats legends, 2face Idibia, described him as the real Legend of Afrobeats because of his powerful and rich lyrics.
Wizkid won Grammy Awards in Best Music Video in 2021 where he was featured by the American singer, Beyonce.
In Grammy Awards 2022, he was nominated for the Global Music Album, and Best Global Music Performance featuring Tems.
