Nigeria’s Education Minister, Prof Tahir Mamman, has lamented the lack of quality teachers, infrastructural development and access to education by vulnerable persons.
The ministers stated this on Tuesday at the opening of a two-day retreat for education stakeholders in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.
The minister, alongside the Minister of State for Education, Dr Yusuf Tanko Sununu, also applauded President Bola Tinubu over the double-digit 2024 budget proposal for the education sector, which is a significant improvement over the previous years.
Recall that the Federal Government 2024 budget christened Budget of Hope by President Bola Tinubu allocated N2.18 trillion to the education sector, showing a 101.85 per cent increase over the N1.08tn that was budgeted to the sector in the 2023 appropriation by the previous government.
Prof Mamman implored heads of parastatals and agencies to work assiduously and collectively to enhance the quality of education delivery at all levels for the benefit of the country.
Mamman also appealed to all state governors to work in partnership with the federal government to achieve a vibrant, functional and self-sustaining education sector for the country.
