In a recent development, the Nigerian University Commission (NUC) has granted Al-Hikmah University approval to elevate the Department of Nursing to Faculty status. Additionally, the NUC has approved an increase in the student intake from 75 to 150.
The announcement was made by the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Noah Yusuf, during the Stakeholders Congress held in collaboration with the Stakeholders Forum. Prof. Yusuf also highlighted the university’s commitment to fully accrediting all its programs, ensuring academic excellence.
Addressing the significance of stakeholder engagement, Prof. Yusuf emphasized the role of such events in fostering strong ties between the university and its stakeholders. He expressed the belief that involving all parties in the decision-making process would collectively address challenges and create an environment conducive to academic success.
As part of the university’s ongoing efforts to enhance the academic experience, Prof. Yusuf shared plans to establish cafeterias on all three campuses. These facilities aim to provide students with convenient dining options, reducing the need for cooking in hostels before and after lectures, with a trial period set for the current semester.
The Vice Chancellor reaffirmed the university’s stance on maintaining a drug-free and violence-free campus environment. Noting the presence of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and other security personnel, Prof. Yusuf underscored the commitment to combating drug-related issues and ensuring the safety of students’ lives and property.
In a separate address, the Chairman of the Stakeholders Forum, Alhaji Tijani Orisankoko, acknowledged the Forum’s contributions to the university’s infrastructure and human resources development. Challenges were outlined, including the need for operational office space and staff, along with improved communication channels among stakeholders.
Alhaji Tijani expressed gratitude to the Founder of Al-Hikmah University, Alhaji Chief Dr. Abduraheem Oladimeji OFR, the Vice Chancellor, parents, guardians, and the entire University management for their support.
The Kwara State commander of the NDLEA, Alhaji Basheer Lawal, emphasized the agency’s mission to guide youths against drug and substance abuse. He urged collaboration with the university to formulate policies on integrity tests, ensuring confidentiality and effective monitoring.
Similarly, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Adewole division, Officer Charles Ajibade, stressed the role of parents as the first line of security for their children. He advocated for intelligent officers within the university to provide information to the management regarding student activities, expressing the command’s commitment to ensuring the safety of staff and students.
