Sir Emeka Offor, through the Emeka Offor Foundation, has been instrumental in the empowerment of universities in Africa by doling out a mouth-watering sum of money to them.
The philanthropic gesture of Offor; who was represented by Chief Steve Ahaneku, was disclosed in a statement by the Head of Corporate Communications, EEDC, Emeka Ezeh, when the award of a Doctoral Degree in Business Administration (Honoris Causa), was conferred on him during the 52nd Convocation Ceremony of the University of Nigeria (UNN).
According to the statement, UNN had been a great beneficiary of the Foundation’s magnanimity, as at a time, it received a large donation of books in various disciplines.
Various institutions in 18 African countries have had their share of Offor’s generous giving when his Foundation and Books for Africa donated books worth $30 million to them.
Benefitting from Offor’s largesse in these universities were disciplines such as Law, Computer Science, Business Administration, and Political Science, among others.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Foundation donated 100 fully-fitted hospital beds to the UNN Teaching Hospital, Ituku-Ozalla, near Enugu.
Also in 2010, the Foundation endowed a professorial chair worth N20 million in the University.
Just recently, during the occasion of the 52nd Convocation of UNN, Offor again donated a N100 million endowment fund for the development of the institution.
Offor, the Executive Chairman of Chrome Group of Companies, made the donation after he was awarded a doctorate in Business Administration.
