Andrew Ekejiuba, the Head of Media and publicity for GTI/TNFF, emphasized that the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) possesses effective mechanisms to address the misconduct of fans at match venues. Expressing concern about the behaviour of spectators during the NPFL fixture between Sporting Lagos and Heartland FC on match day 9, Ekejiuba criticized the fans’ actions.
Dismissing assertions made by Total Promotions regarding the league’s broadcast rights, Ekejiuba offered advice to Heartland, urging them to enhance their performance or face the possibility of exclusion from the league.
He stated, “The matches in Week 9 were truly exciting, providing fans with value for their money, whether they watched live at the venues or online. In Lagos, Heartland came close to securing a victory before an unexpected turn of events. Christian Obi and his team must step up their efforts.
The practice of playing without giving 101% needs to cease. Hard work is the key for Heartland to secure wins. Relying on draws, as seen in most of their matches, will not lead to success in the NPFL. Similar situations occurred with Bendel Insurance during the Championship Playoffs, and they faced setbacks.”
Ekejiuba highlighted that there are sanctions for disruptive fan behaviour during matches, assuring that the NPFL has a robust system to handle such situations. He deferred to the league authorities for further details, emphasizing that GTI/TNFF acts as strategic partners and intervenes only when necessary.
Regarding Total Promotions, Ekejiuba refrained from discussing the matter, asserting, “I don’t want to delve into discussions about Total Promotions because they are unfamiliar to us. We are not acquainted with them, and we have no interest in their actions and deeds.”
