The Nigeria University System (NUS) has sought robust engagement around quality assurance with the aim of solving higher education complexities needed to maintain and continuously improve quality.
The NUS, led by the Acting Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC) Mr Chris Maiyaki, hoped to achieve ¹in the just concluded 2024 Council for Higher Accreditation (CHEA)/ Chea International Quality Group (CIQG) annual Conference held in Washington DC.
This year’s Conference centred on the topics such as ” Quality Assurance Matters; and Students.”
The Conference was designed to be an integrated package made up plenary and concurrent sessions comprising topics such as Designing for Quality Assurance in Competency-based Education! Data Collection and Ensuring Compliance with Accreditation Standards and Model for developing accreditation that was available and sustainable.
Among the take home from the Conference was that political noise should not be a deterrence to providing the services and instructions that would ensure that students become successful, ensuring that what was done aligned with the mission of the institution.
The Conference also expressed challenges such as infrastructural needs and staff training for effective online learning against the traditional methods of teaching.
The panellist discovered that Artificial Intelligence had already formed an integral part of higher education learning management systems as well as accounting systems.
The gathering deliberated upon how all efforts must focus on strengthening higher education, as well as ensuring that all promises to the students were delivered.
