Nollywood actress, Toyin Abraham, has hinted that she was gripped by a panic attack after her movie ‘Malaika’ was pirated on several Telegram channels.
Toyin disclosed this during an interview with journalists, saying she had to request the moderators on several Telegram groups to stop the illegal download of the movie that cost her N500 million to produce.
She expressed that it was heartbreaking witnessing a film that cost a whopping sum of money being downloaded through leaks.
Following this, Toyin and her FilmOne movie distributor were said to have made moves to apprehend several people behind the pirating of ‘Malaika’ and other Nollywood movies.
However, five people, including two women, were arrested by the Police over the piracy incident, as the Police have vowed to clamp down on the illegal activity.
Toyin commended the Police on the arrest, saying she had offered to engage in combat against piracy for the benefit of everyone in the entertainment industry.
‘Malaika, produced by Steve Olufemi Shodiya, was released on December 22, 2023. Meanwhile, it was initially released for cinema viewing on December 21.
The film parades an array of Nollywood stars like Anne Kansiime, Emeka Ike, Odunlade Adekola, and Adebayo Ridwan Abidemi, among others.
