Alarmed by the spate of divorce across Nollywood, veteran actor, Pete Edochie, has advised that Nollywood actresses should remain in their marriages.
Speaking recently, the 76-year-old actor counselled that women should take their marriages vows seriously and remain in their marriages for better for worse.
“You know you take a vow when you are getting married for better or worse. Not for better for us but for better or worse,” Edochie said.
He expressed that most women
think that grass is greener on the other side, expressing shock
that most actresses in Nollywood had left their husbands, referring to marriage failures of actresses like Chioma Apotha, Tonto Dike and Ireti Doyles.
Edochie pointed out that “men and women are not equals in the home. In our culture a man does not kneel down to offer a ring to a woman.”
The actor, who gained prominence in the TV series, ‘Things Fall Apart,’ and his wife, Josephine, celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary in 2022.
Edochie, an icon in Nollywood, has won several awards.
