Student Rusticated for Beating Female Students
A student of the University of Ilorin, Kwara State, name withheld, has been rusticated for beating a fellow female student. The 400-level student of the faculty of education was rusticated for one academic session after the school authority found him guilty.
His punishment began with immediate effect and would be recalled after staying away from the university for one year. As of the time of filling this report, the cause of the fight has not been ascertained.
OAU Hosts Inaugural Student Researchers Conference
The first-ever Student Researchers Conference organized by students of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) in Ile-Ife, Nigeria, took place on June 1, 2024, at ACE Park, OAU, Ile-Ife. Dr. Malomo from the Faculty of Technology delivered the keynote address on behalf of Prof. Akanni Akinyemi, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Research, Innovation, and Development (DVC RID).
Dr. Malomo’s address highlighted the importance of university students becoming active researchers who contribute to national growth and development. Emphasizing that research is a public good with significant societal impacts, he encouraged students to take advantage of available grants. The address sparked numerous questions about conducting impactful research, integrating various disciplines with the Sustainable Development Goals, writing successful grant proposals, and fostering cross-disciplinary collaboration.
Female Students at FUNAAB Get Capacity Development Training
The Career Services and Linkages Unit (CSLU) at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), in collaboration with DOIT Consulting Services, Jobberman Nigeria, and the Mastercard Foundation, organized a Capacity Development Workshop specifically for female students in their final or penultimate year. The event took place at the Elias Bogoro Twin Lecture Theatre.
Initiated by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, the workshop spanned four days, from Monday, June 3, to Thursday, June 6, 2024, with two training sessions held daily.
