The popular Afrobeats singer, Adekunle Kosoko aka Adekunle Gold, has advised survivors of sickle cell anaemia never to give up. The musician advised while performing on stage recently as he paid tribute to survivors.
He advised those afflicted with the disease further that they should never let the condition keep them from achieving their life objectives.
Adekunle Gold disclosed how he battled with the debilitating disease his whole life, having been diagnosed at birth and grown up with it.
The musician said, “I want to say you can do it. If I can do it, you can do it too. I grew up with sickle cell. I was born with sickle cell. All my life I fought with it. But I am thankful I was able to manage it. I am everywhere doing shows, I don’t fall sick…look at me I am a superstar right now.”
He showed his appreciation to God for how he managed it, playing all over the world as he had never been sick.
He seized the opportunity by taking a minute on stage to honour individuals battling with sickle cell anaemia, dedicating his song 5 Star to them.
Despite being in a protracted battle with sickle cell, Adekunle Gold has had a thriving career in music, emerging as one of the leading Afrobeats musicians in Nigeria.
He is married to a popular singer and songwriter, Simi, and has been nominated for a series of awards, winning many as well.
