Veteran Nollywood actor, Anayo Modestus Onyekwere aka Kanayo O Kanayo has expressed his displeasure over distrust of the Igbo ethnic group by the rest of Nigerians.
Kanayo, a lawyer, expressed this in a video on his official Instagram page while speaking on the present economic distress plaguing Nigeria.
He reacted in a manner suggesting that he is pained, and unhappy that the position of the leadership of the country has continued to elude the South-eastern part of the country.
He said that if the Igbo could not be trusted with leadership positions in the country, they should also not be available to partake in any protest.
He warned the Igbo that because they were always the target in everything that went wrong in Nigeria, they should not make themselves available for any protest.
The actor stated, “We are always the target, we should learn from what happened. Let’s guard ourselves and ensure that the people who said we cannot be trusted with leadership, we also want to tell them that we cannot be trusted with protest.”
He expressed, “It’s unfortunate that we are all going through this economic hardship, but the fact is that we are unavailableโฆ”
Meanwhile, the Igbo socio-cultural group, Ohaneze Ndigbo, had, through its President General, Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, also warned the Igbo not to be involved in any protest.
Nigeria currently faces an economic crisis that has left many homes poor, as citizens live in squalor, with hunger wreaking havoc, forcing citizens to weigh protest options against the government.
Foods are scarce, while the few available come at high prices beyond the reach of the poor.
Kanayo won the African Movie Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role for his splendid performance in the movie Family Battle in 2006.
