The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced plans to introduce electronic devices in examination centres to curb exam malpractices.
This decision was made public by the Head of National Office, WAEC, Dr. Amos Dangut, after observing the 2024 West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
According to Dangut, electronic devices will replace paper registration for candidates and enable computer-based testing for schools with adequate facilities.
Schools without facilities will continue to use pen and paper. WAEC will consult with the Ministry of Education to establish a timeline for implementation.
Dangut emphasized the need for larger laboratories with sufficient equipment to accommodate students.
WAEC had previously adopted Computer-Based Tests (CBT) for private candidates.
The National Examinations Council (NECO) is also considering CBT adoption in the future.
This move aims to enhance the integrity and security of examinations in the region.
