Head Coach Christopher Musa Danjuma has extended invitations to a group of 25 players for the upcoming FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup qualifying match against Burundi. The roster includes goalkeepers Anderlin Mgbechi and Shukurat Bakare, defenders Oluchi Ohaegbulam and Comfort Folorunsho, midfielders Taiwo Afolabi and Adoo Yina, and forwards Chiamaka.
Among the selected players are FIFA U17 World Cup bronze-medalist goalkeeper Faith Omilana, defenders Jumoke Alani, Emamuzo Edafe, and Shukurat Oladipo, along with midfielders Chinyere Kalu and Chioma Olise, and forwards Opeyemi Ajakaye, Oluwayemisi Samuel, and Janet Akekoromowei.
The training camp is set to commence in the Federal Capital, Abuja, on Wednesday, 27th December.
After advancing to the third round due to the withdrawal of Mauritius, the Falconets secured a 3-2 aggregate victory over Tanzania in the second round last month. This victory sets the stage for a clash with Burundi, who eliminated the U20 teams of South Africa and the Democratic Republic of Congo from the competition.
The first leg of the fixture is scheduled to take place in Bujumbura between 12th and 14th January, with the return leg at the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, on Saturday, 20th January.
The victorious team from this fixture will progress to the final round of the qualification series, with matches scheduled for March 2024.
