The Afrobeats singer and Grammy Awards nominee, David Adedeji Adeleke, aka Davido, has expressed his condolences to the family of the dead former Managing Director of Access Bank, Herbert Wigwe. Davido’s condolence message was posted on his social media page, expressing his deepest regret over the demise of Wigwe.
He wrote, “I pray for strength and comfort for Wigwe’s family.
Likewise, the Central Bank Governor, Olayemi Cardoso, expressed his condolences to Wigwe’s family and Access Holdings, including Otunba Abimbola Ogunbadejo who died alongside Wigwe, his wife, and son through the official X handle of CBN, wishing that their souls rest in peace.
Former Governor of Anambra State and Presidential candidate of the Labour party in the 2023 general election, Peter Obi, also mourned the tragic death of his dear friend, Wigwe and saddened about others who lost their lives in the crash.
Former Governor of Abia State and now a Senator of the Federal Republic, representing Abia State, Orji Uzo Kalu, lamented the death of Wigwe also, condoling with the board, management, staff, and stakeholders of Access Holdings.
Wigwe died as a result of the crash of a Eurocopter EC130 helicopter on Saturday, February 10, 2024, in Nipton, California, close to the Nevada borders in the United States of America (USA).
Wigwe, his wife, and son were killed in the crash, which according to the preliminaries report by the US authorities, was brought about by wintry weather conditions, among other contributing factors.
Also on board the helicopter with Wigwe was the former Group Chairperson of Nigerian Exchange Group Plc, Abimbola Ogunbadejo.
Wigwe was said to have had a premonition about his death when he posted on his X on January 19, 2024, advising his followers, “Today and always, let us know that life is a precious gift, a chance to breathe, feel, love, experience and connect.”
“Let’s honour this gift by living with purpose, kindness, and gratitude, making every moment count. Let us number our days,” said Wigwe.
Wigwe has just established a University in Nigeria that he said would be comparable with the best in the world.
