The superstar Nigerian singer, David Adedeji Adeleke aka Davido is warming up for a legal battle against the April Fool report where he was said to have been detained in Uganda during shows. It was later found out that the report, which was widely circulated on social media, was false and written in the light of April Fool’s mood as it is always in people’s tradition to play pranks on themselves on the first day of April of every year.
However, Davido wrote on his X handle that regardless of the light of the April Fool, his lawyers would be seeking legal recourse against the media parties responsible for generating the misinformation.
The Grammy Awards nominee wrote on his X handle that he had received a barrage of calls following the false report which was published online on April 1, 2024.
According to Sky News, the prank story was first published by K24 TV but was classified as ‘fake news’ by Kenya’s Directorate of Criminal Investigations, which made the story available online.
The report had it that cocaine was found on the private jet of the Afrobeats sensation when he was on tour on April 1, after which he was arrested and detained in East Africa.
Davido, debunking the report, said he completed his scheduled shows in Uganda and Kenya and had since returned home to Nigeria.
“I’d also like to note that I have never been arrested by anyone in any country for any crime in the world. Not my home Nigeria, my home America, or any of the hundreds of countries I’ve made home throughout my career.”
“I found the fabrication of allegations of such international crimes extremely irresponsible regardless of the light of ‘April Fool.’
