The Independent People of Biafra (IPOB) has issued a stern warning to the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) to suspend their academic activities on May 30, 2024. This warning came in an open letter addressed to the WAEC Board and the Vice Chancellor of UNIZIK, Professor Charles Okechukwu Esimone, through IPOB’s Spokesperson, Emma Powerful.
In the letter, the university authority was reminded that May 30 has been designated Biafra Heroes Day and a sit-at-home day for all Biafrans in Biafra Land.
As a result, the university was advised to reschedule its convocation ceremony slated for May 30.
Similarly, the management of WAEC was told to reschedule its examination slated for May 30 to a new date, as the day is considered unsafe for any individual in the Biafra territory.
The letter states, “…Kindly reschedule your convocation and exam to a new date, as May 30 is Biafra Heroes Day and a sit-at-home day for all Biafrans in Biafra Land. No public event is expected to take place in Biafra Land on this day, as it is a public holiday.”
The letter also warned that movement of persons and vehicles is not allowed, except for essential or emergency services such as health workers, ambulances, fire services, filling stations, and hospitals.
Additionally, all markets, schools, banks, government, and private offices are expected to be closed.
