Following the Nigerian Federal Government’s order to revert to the old national anthem, Nollywood veteran actress Kate Henshaw has advocated for good governance for the citizens of the country.
On her social media platform, she decried the development, stating that reverting to the old national anthem should not have been the government’s priority when citizens are plagued by a parlous economy and suffering excruciating pain due to a lack of good governance at all levels.
She sarcastically suggested that the old colonial anthem might be a soothing balm that will inject patriotism back into citizens’ veins.
Similarly, former Senator Shehu Sanni berated the government on his social media handle, advising that they should not have prioritized changing the national anthem when the nation is facing economic woes and security challenges.
It is worth noting that the two Nigerian legislative houses hurriedly passed the old national anthem bill into law within days, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu hastily assented to it.
Justifying its decision, the government claimed that the anthem evokes a sense of nostalgia, builds strong patriotism, brings a culture of unity among different ethnic groups, and teaches love and honor for past heroes.”
