The National Orientation Agency (NOI) has hailed the outstanding accomplishment of Nollywood actress, Funke Akindele, describing her as a champion following the mouth-watering sum of money her latest work garnered from box office ticket sales.
In a statement issued by NOA where it said Akindele was a pace-setter in the Nigerian film industry, Nollywood, it acknowledged that her recent movie, A Tribe Called Judah, was a testament to Nigeria’s rich creative legacy to have made N1billion sales within the first three weeks in cinema.
NOA said, “Funke Akindele’s movie…raised the bar for Nollywood with N1 billion box office ticket sales within three weeks of its release in the cinema.”
It added that the actress, scriptwriter, producer and director had exemplified the Nigerian spirit of entrepreneurship, hard work and resilience, saying she had come a long way in the professional ladder.
Akindele’s new film heaped accolades on her from all sections of the country, and in the international scene as her latest effort, smashed box office records, becoming the first Nigerian movie to surpass N1 billion at the box office.
A Tribe Called Judah, according to Akindele, was dedicated to her late mother, Adebanjo Akindele, expressing that the film was so dear to her heart as it had a part of her late mummy in it.
