The Dean of, the Faculty of Law, National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Dr Earnest Ugbejeh, has applauded the outstanding performance of its Law students at the Nigeria Law School (NLS).
Dr Ugbejeh expressed this opinion while answering questions from journalists in his office at the headquarters of the institution in Jabi, Abuja.
NOUN Law students were reported by NLS to have recorded excellent academic performance, as well as done well in qualifying examinations.
Dr Ugbejeh said, “The Council of Legal Education and Body of Benchers conducted qualifying examinations for students preparing for Nigeria Law School and our students who participated in the examination did well.”
He added that the regulatory body fears that NOUN runs a part-time programme: and that its students will not do well.
“From all indications, that misconception appeared to have been settled now…we had physical contact with our students and we facilitated them,” Ugbejeh explained.
He added, “We all knew the quality of our students…that when they went to the NLS, the lecturers were amazed at their performance. They did so well and the report we got from our students was that they never had a set of students that were as outstanding as our students in terms of conduct; in terms of academic performance; they earned so many awards by the end of their programme.
He explained that the NOUN Faculty of Law has six Moot Courts across the country, where students learn practical aspects of Law. The Moot Courts are located in Lagos, PortHarcourt, Kano, Abuja, Enugu and Benin.
