Just when a private university slashed it’s fees by half recently, the authority of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, has announced an increase in its tuition fees.
The new fees are between N89,000 and N190,000, depending on the academic level of the students.
Before, returning students paid between N19,000 and N31,000, while freshers paid between N70,000 and N100,000, depending on the facilities.
New students in the faculties of Arts, Law and Humanities will now be paying N151,200 while returning students will pay N89,200.
In the College of Health Sciences and Pharmacy, new students will pay N190,000, while returning students will pay N128,200
The announcement of the increase in fees is coming when students are still finding it hard to cope with the increase in pump prices of petrol and the removal of fuel subsidies.
