In a bid to bolster technological skills, the Babcock University Centre for Open Distance and e-Learning (BUCODel) has forged partnerships with the British Council, Edutech, and Techlink.
This collaboration has resulted in the provision of 179 training opportunities covering a spectrum of IT disciplines such as web design, 3D animation, graphic design, full-stack development, network security, and advanced data analysis.
Professor Mobolanle Sotunsa, Director of BUCODel, disclosed these developments in a recent statement.
She highlighted the acquisition of a training grant from the Commonwealth of Learning (COL) during the specified period.
Professor Sotunsa further revealed that within less than three years of securing approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC) to offer MBA and B.Sc programs, over 100 learners have already enrolled with the Centre.
These learners are currently pursuing B.Sc programs in Accounting, Computer Science, and the Master of Business Administration (MBA) program at various levels.
Expanding on the institution’s initiatives, Professor Sotunsa mentioned preparations for the introduction of course materials and resources for 10 new B.Sc programs, including Nursing (Direct Entry for licensed Nurses) among others, are slated for this year.
Highlighting BUCODel’s journey since 2021, Professor Sotunsa underscored significant achievements in educational expansion and increased enrollments, positioning the institution as a notable player in the Open and Distance Learning (ODel) sector in Nigeria.
โBUCODel’s strategic roadmap prioritizes technological advancement, global collaborations, and innovation, fostering an environment conducive to pioneering online education,โ she added.
Acknowledging the collective effort behind these milestones, Professor Sotunsa credited the governing board, university management, faculty, staff, and other stakeholders for their support.
Looking ahead, plans are underway to launch certificate courses in ODeL, instructional design, content development, learner support mechanisms, and fundamentals of e-learning through the BUCODel Training Institute.
The director expressed her commitment to elevating the center into a research and innovation hub dedicated to advancing knowledge in ODel and fostering innovationโa key objective under her stewardship.
