Ms. Coco Lee, best known for performing an Oscar nominated song in the film, ‘Growing Tiger, Hidden Dragon,’ has committed suicide. Lauren McCarthy reported that the 48-year-old died Wednesday after attempted suicide at home, but taken to the hospital as disclosed by her sister, Nancy Lee.
According to report, Lee had suffered depression for a few years, which worsened over the last few months, even though she sought professional help, doing her best to fight the mental illness, “…sadly that demon inside of her took the better of her,” said Nancy.
She had illustrious career as an Asian Pop singer, known in America to have sung ‘A love Before Time’ in the 2000 film ‘Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.’
She performed the song ‘A Love Before Time’ in front of a television audiences of millions at the Academy Awards ceremony in March 2001 after she got nominated for an Oscar in the best new original song category.
Born Jan 17, 1975, Lee began her career as a recording artist after finishing as the runner in the singing competition played host to by Television Broadcaster (TVB) in Hong Kong in 1993.
Lee’s career, apart from music, witnessed voicing as the lead character in Mandarin version of Disney’s 1998 animated film ‘Mulan’ in addition to singing the movie’s theme song, ‘Reflection.’
