By designing a ‘Road Sweeper Vehicle,’ David Enumah of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Covenant University has won
2023 student of Engineering Competition organized by the Committee of Deans of Engineering and Technology (CODET).
The ‘Road Sweeper Vehicle’ project was designed to sweep large expanses of land in record time. In the same vein, the vehicle alleviate will the stress of the drivers while operating the vehicle.
According to Enumah, who was declared winner of the 5th edition on August 5, 2023, what motivated him was to improve the efficiency of the campus keeper and also address the environmental challenges caused by falling leaves from adorning trees that litter the campus environment anytime windy rain falls.
Enumah said, “The leaves from these trees after heavy rainfall usually efface the aesthetic beauty of the campus, and I felt there was a need to provide a better way of speedily carrying out clean-up exercises.”
He added having seen how tedious it is to clean the whole university campus, he felt compelled to find a solution that will lessen the stress, “save man-hours and above all, ameliorate the health concerns of Covenant University’s Campus Keepers.”
Enumah earlier in the year had won the CODET Competition held at CU to proceed to the national finals which involved all geographical zones in Nigeria.
CODET is a sub-committee under the Education and Training Committee of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), with the responsibility of organizing engineering-related competitions annually.
