The Federal University Oye Ekiti is set to begin a Postgraduate programme leading to the award of Master’s degree in Space Studies.
To achieve this, the University is partnering with the African Region Centre for Space Sciences and Technology Education in English (ARCSSTE-E), an affiliate of the United Nations (UN).
According to Bamidele Eniola and Femi Otitoju, the ARCSSTE-E team led by former Vice Chancellor of BOWEN University, Professor Joshua Ogunwole, was welcomed by the Vice Chancellor of FUOYE, Professor Abayomi Fashina and his team.
Speaking, the VC said he had been worried about Space Studies, adding that his focus had been to have a Centre for Excellence for Space Science in the University.
He expressed that the University wanted to collaborate with ARCSSTE-E, especially to have a Centre of Excellence for Space.
Professor Fashina, however, promised, “We are here to partner with you. We will give you all the support. In FUOYE we are known for innovation, character, and thinking out of the box is our slogan.”
According to the Executive Director ARCSSTE-E, Professor Babatunde Rabiu, the Centre would seek areas of research collaboration with FUOYE, pledging that they were ready to work with the management of the University with the resources available.
ARCSSTE-E was inaugurated on November 24, 1998, in Nigeria and affiliated with the UN Office for Outer Space Affairs (OOSA).
Other national and regional institutions with research and training interests in space science and technology are also affiliated with ARCSSTE-E.
