The popular American rapper, record producer, and entrepreneur, Shawn Corey Carter aka Jay-Z, has recounted how his mum suffered hardship when she was raising four kids in Brooklyn, New York.
According to him, he watched how his mum raised four kids amid having to struggle all alone when Jay-Z’s dad abandoned the family when the rapper was 11.

“My mother is very important to me. My dad abandoned our family when I was 11 years old, leaving my mum with 4 kids on her own in Brooklyn, New York,” said Jay-Z.
He described his mother as a beautiful and strong woman who never allowed him to feel sorry, inspiring him, and assuring him that he could be anything in the world.
“Those words she told me I believe and put them into my heart till these days and I think that’s what molded me and kept me strong,” he disclosed.
He stated that once he became a successful rapper and entrepreneur, he retired his mum who when she was bored and desired to work, Jay-Z made her the President of The Shawn Carter Foundation, a foundation owned by him.
Going philosophical, the rapper expressed that, “Life itself isn’t fair to anyone but when you know that things happen for a reason, you’ll take advantage of any situation you find yourself in.”
Jay-Z is married to Beyonce Knowles, an American R&B singer, until lately when speculation of Jay-Z being gay was making the rounds as alleged by Beyonce who expressed that she was no longer enjoying her marriage.
Jay-Z was named the greatest rapper of all time by Billboard and Vibe in 2023.
