The popular R&B singer, Akon, has expressed that he wants Africa redefined and shown to the entire world from a positive perspective.
Expressing his view lately, the Senegalese-American singer said Africa needs to rebrand and change the way the world sees it, adding that almost everything in America was copied in Africa and modified.
“…They made the United States seem like it is the best place in the world to be, it’s the land of the free, home of the brave, then I got there to chase my dreams.
“We Africans have to be able to tell our own stories, directors, filmmakers, entertainers, and the press have to take it as a responsibility to redefine how people think about Africa.
“I can tell you that in Chicago right now, more people are dying than it was in the books I read but you’ll never see that in any book or movie, stated Akon.
He wonders that when something happens the media and press are quick to report the negative aspect of the story.
Akon advises that Africans have to teach their children about their ancestors, and the great things they have achieved.
“But then you go to Nigeria, you’ve got Wizkid, P-square, Davido, and all these guys driving Bentley, Lamborghini, Ferrari and living in a mansion, actually owning those things.
“If I say it now Africans won’t believe it, but Nigerian artists are way richer than American rappers. I’ve been there that is why I keep saying this all the time that Africa is better than America,” Akon submits.
