The National Common Entrance Examination (NCEE) for 2004 has been scheduled for June 1. Now that the examination is fast approaching, each student that will sit for the exam will be eager to come out with flying colours.
To excel you need to do the following:
Battle Fear
As you are about sitting for the exam, one of the things you need to conquer is fear. It’s normal to express fear, but you can ride over it if you believe within yourself that you can excel. Don’t be afraid. Be focused. Have a winning mentality.
Study Past Questions
One of the things you need to do to emerge victorious in this exam is to practise past questions over and again. When you practise, there is every possibility that you will come across likely questions. By this, you will also know the pattern with which questions are asked.
Have a Good Study Habit
Design a good study habit for yourself. Study at the time when you can achieve your optimum best. Design a timetable, and have a specific time to study when you will not be interrupted. You can either study during the day or in the night. Choose the best time because you know yourself better.
Study All Subjects
Ensure you study all the subjects examined in the NCEE. Don’t study one and abandon others because they appear not to be your favourite. All the subjects count towards your total result.
The subjects you will be examined on, range from Mathematics and Basic Science & Technology, English & National Values Education, Quantitative and Vocational Aptitude, and Verbal Aptitude. These subjects add up to your score, so study them effectively.
Enrol in Extra Mural Classes
One of the ways to excel in NCEE is to enrol in extra mural classes where all these subjects are taught thoroughly. In extra mural classes, past questions are treated, including the pattern with which questions are asked and how to answer them.
Avoid Distractions
Avoid anything that can distract you from what you are about to face. Stay focused and set your mind on what you are about to encounter. Let your mind be revolving around the examination, but do not fear.
Study for Long Hours
Stay glued to your books during this time. Endeavour to spend long hours reading to be able to grasp the concepts being studied. Parents should allow their children to concentrate during this time as they dedicate long hours to study. However, know that you have to study effectively so that you just don’t spend long hours for nothing.
Consult Your Teachers
Always ask for guidance on things you don’t know from your teachers. Allow them to direct you and show you the way to go about NCEE. Let your teachers explain the topics you don’t understand to you all over again as you seek their guidance.
Revise
Having read, create time to go over what you have read to find out if the concepts read or studied have been assimilated or not. If you’ve not properly grasped what you have studied, go over them again to have them stored in your brain. Always have time to revise.
Test Yourself After Study
After you’ve studied well, endeavour to test yourself by finding out what exactly you’ve learned. Do this many times and over till you are about to sit for the exam. One way to test yourself is by answering likely exam questions.
Understand the Instructions
During the exam, understand the instructions very well. Do exactly what you’re being instructed to do in the exam hall before you start. Read instructions properly to know what to do. This is one step towards excelling. Don’t just attempt questions without reading instructions.
