
Professor Mobolanle Ebunoluwa Sotunsa Credit: Babcock University
In a recent development, the National Academy of Letters (NAL) has extended its membership to Professor Mobolanle Ebunoluwa Sotunsa, acknowledging her outstanding contributions to the field of Oral Literature Culture, Gender Studies, and academic mentorship.
Professor Sotunsa, currently holding the position of a professor in African Oral Literature and Gender Studies at Babcock University, Nigeria, earned her doctoral degree from the Department of English at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. Her academic expertise encompasses African Oral Literature, African Women’s Writings, Literary Theories, and African Literature.
With an impressive record, Professor Sotunsa has authored, edited, or co-edited ten books, along with numerous scholarly articles and book chapters featured in reputable journals and peer-reviewed publications, both domestically and internationally.
Some notable titles among her works include “Expressions of Indigenous and Local Knowledge in Africa and its Diaspora” (Cambridge Scholars Publishing, 2016), “Emerging Discourses on the Future of Higher Education in Africa” (2016), and “Fieldwork in Nigerian Oral Literature” (2014).
Beyond her prolific writing career, Professor Sotunsa has demonstrated a commitment to academic supervision, successfully guiding numerous PhD, M.Phil, and master’s students.
Her global engagement is evident through her participation in public lectures, keynote seminars, and scholarly presentations at national and international conferences.
Professor Sotunsa’s leadership roles include serving as the Head of the Department of Languages and Literary Studies at Babcock University from 2006 to 2009, a visiting scholar at the School of African and Oriental Studies (SOAS), University of London in 2009, and a visiting professor/scholar in residence at the African Studies Institute, University of Georgia, USA in 2013.
