A thirteen-year-old lad, Tanitoluwa Adewumi, has set an outstanding record in the United States chess game, shattering the required 2200 points, and becoming a US Chessmaster.
Tanitoluwa recorded a milestone to become the 28th youngest National Chess Master in the US, edging out other competitors.
It all started in 2017 when he and his parent migrated to the US where, through the help of a pastor, they secured accommodation in a homeless shelter situated in New York.
The family had previously got a tourist visa, which enabled them to move to Dallas, Texas where they were connected to the pastor.
In New York Tanitoluwa saw the chessboard for the first time and got fascinated, thinking he could try his hand, having shown admiration in how the pieces moved, and “how anything can happen at any moment.”
His interest propelled him to achieve success after playing chess, where his extraordinary brilliance got him noticed, having won the United States National State Chess Championship.
With this victory, Adewunmi and his family launched a GoFundMe account where he secured a fund amounting to $254,000 from US citizens who were enthralled by his excellence.
The fund enabled the family to secure a better accommodation as well as served as a motivation for the child prodigy to emerge as one of the world’s chess fastest-rising Stars.
Adewunmi obtained a chess rating of 2,223 at the United States National Chess Competition, garnering three more points, even though the required point a champion could be awarded is 2,220.
