The National Examinations Council (NECO) has announced the release of the results for the 2023 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) external.
Alongside this announcement, NECO revealed that it has blacklisted two supervisors in Oyo and Lagos states, as well as one examination centre in Borno state, for their involvement in examination malpractices during the 2023 SSCE external.
Professor Dantani Wushishi, NECO’s Registrar/Chief Executive, made this known during a press briefing in Minna. He stated that the two supervisors were blacklisted due to poor supervision, inability to control the candidates, and aiding and abetting, while the Borno centre was blacklisted for aiding and abetting by sharing WhatsApp messages with candidates.
Wushishi reported that 8,518 candidates were implicated in various forms of malpractice, with two centers in Kaduna and Ogun states involved.
Out of the 74,950 candidates who registered for the examinations, 74,342 sat for the exam. Among them, 73,123 candidates sat for the English Language exam, with 55,272 (75.59 percent) obtaining Credit and above. For Mathematics, out of 73,119 candidates, 67,815 (92.75 percent) achieved Credit and above.
Furthermore, 50,066 candidates (67.35 percent) obtained five Credits and above, including English and Mathematics. Additionally, 63,539 candidates (84.11 percent) achieved five Credits and above irrespective of English Language and Mathematics.
In addressing staff challenges, the Registrar launched an automated annual posting calendar to ensure fairness and efficiency in the Council’s staff posting for out-of-station assignments, aiming to eliminate lopsidedness and favoritism.
